Why Install Solar?
Switching to solar isn’t just about going green — it’s about gaining control. Installing solar lets you reduce your monthly energy bills, protect yourself from rising power costs, and increase your home’s value, all while contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable Nova Scotia. With today’s rebates and financing options, there’s never been a better time to harness the sun and invest in your future.
Here’s why more Nova Scotians are making the switch:

Reduce Your Power Bills for Decades
Solar panels dramatically lower your monthly electricity costs by generating clean, local power right from your roof.
-
Gain independence from rising Nova Scotia Power rates.
-
Protect yourself against future increases planned for 2026 and 2027.
-
Enjoy predictable energy costs for the long term.

Power a Cleaner, Greener Nova Scotia
Every kilowatt-hour of solar you produce means less reliance on fossil fuels.
-
1,000 kWh of solar = roughly 0.7 metric tons of CO₂ offset
-
Panels offset their own manufacturing footprint within a few years
-
Help reduce emissions — electricity generation is still Nova Scotia’s largest source of greenhouse gases

Rebates & Incentives Make It Affordable
Government programs make switching to solar easier than ever.
-
Federal Greener Homes Grant and Efficiency Nova Scotia incentives can save you up to $10,000
-
Financing options help you spread out costs
-
Most systems pay for themselves in 7–12 years

Strengthening Nova Scotia’s Clean Energy Economy
Choosing solar supports local jobs and innovation.
-
Every installation contributes to Nova Scotia’s growing clean tech sector
-
Creates sustainable employment in design, installation, and maintenance
-
Supports Canada’s transition to a renewable future

How Does Net Metering Work?
Net metering is an economic win for homeowners with solar panels. Nova Scotia Power (and local utilities) must allow you to send extra electricity back to the grid for credits on your electricity bills. Net metering is established by law in Nova Scotia through amendments to the Electricity Act and the Renewable Electricity Regulations. When your solar panels produce more energy than you are consuming - in the warmer months, that surplus power goes directly to the grid and is measured by a smart bi-directional meter. This exported power is credited to you against the power you bought in that calendar year. If your system generates 100% or more of your annual energy, those credits are used to bring your monthly bill down to the base connection charge (approximately $20/m). Note: Savings will not be fully realised until the end of your first full calendar year of solar generation.
